Amazon stops pre-employment marijuana drug testing for most positions.

,"Amazon is no longer testing most of its job applicants for marijuana, a move that makes it the latest big company to adjust its drug policies..." With the passing of more laws legalizing marijuana, many employers have been adjusting their drug testing policies to keep up with the times. Amazon is now one of the latest big companies to make changes to their drug policies, no longer testing most of their job applicants for marijuana.

The online retail giant announced in June 2021 that they would end pre-employment marijuana drug testing for all jobs outside of those subjected to federal or state regulations. This change in policy applies to Amazon’s U.S. field operations teams and will no longer screen for marijuana in many circumstances.

Amazon is not alone in this decision. Many large employers, including Amazon.com Inc., have dropped cannabis from their drug-testing panel in recent years due to the tight labor market and more states legalizing marijuana. While marijuana use is still illegal under federal law, many states have loosened or overturned their laws on marijuana usage.

Drug testing can be a sensitive issue for employers, and Amazon’s decision highlights the challenges employers are facing in this area. For example, drug tests can be unreliable, depending on the type of test used. Urinalysis is the most common type of drug test, and it can detect marijuana use for up to a month after consumption. However, it doesn’t really work to stop your urine sample from being diluted when you do it. Detox drinks will mask any toxins. So there’s no guarantee that a urine test will work.

Another type of drug test that Amazon might use is a hair follicle test. How does drug testing on hair work? If you smoked, cannabis absorbs into your bloodstream. After that, it spreads to the whole body. Some time later, traces of it are left in your hair follicles. So a hair follicle test can detect marijuana use up to 90 days after you’ve smoked it.

However, one variation I’ve heard of Amazon using when they drug test orally is to place a cotton swab in your mouth and take a sample. Here’s Why Mouth Swab Drug Tests Are So Dangerous – they can detect marijuana use up to 24 hours after you’ve smoked it.

It’s clear that Amazon’s decision to end pre-employment marijuana drug testing for most jobs is a reflection of the changing times. While bear markets are known to test the resolve of investors, they’re also a great opportunity to find strong stocks to buy. Find out why Amazon is one of the 10 best stocks to buy now.

Amazon’s decision not to test job applicants for marijuana isn’t only a reflection of the changing times, but also of the changing legal landscape. On June 1, 2021, Amazon said it would immediately end pre-employment marijuana drug testing for all jobs outside of those subjected to federal or state regulations. Amazon.com Inc. won dismissal of a proposed class laws under New York City’s law barring employers from testing most workers for marijuana.

All in all, Amazon’s decision to end pre-employment marijuana drug testing for most jobs is an important milestone in the cultural shift toward accepting marijuana use. With more states legalizing marijuana, more employers are likely to follow Amazon’s lead and stop testing job applicants for marijuana.
