Zen Leaf's journey to find a new location in Rogers Park

Description: An image of a storefront with a sign that reads "Zen Leaf" in front of a parking lot with several cars parked. The storefront has a modern design with large glass windows and a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

Zen Leaf previously proposed moving into the former Leona's restaurant but switched gears after Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) asked the company to reconsider. Zen Leaf is now marking its second effort to relocate within Rogers Park after its earlier proposal to open in the former Leona's on Sheridan Road was met with community resistance.

The company is now looking to open a dispensary in a former Outback Steakhouse on Touhy Avenue. Willow Brook Enfield LLC, doing business as Zen Leaf Enfield, has submitted an application for a special-use permit to renovate and occupy the site.

The proposed location is across the street from a Chase Bank, a Subway sandwich shop, and a Walgreens pharmacy. The closest dispensaries are Mission Illinois on Howard Street, about 1.5 miles away, and Zen Leaf on Route 59, near New York Street.

The Touhy Avenue location would be the second dispensary in Rogers Park, which is located on the far North Side of Chicago. The only dispensary in the city is the Zen Leaf store at 1804 Maple Ave. Another dispensary, which would be in conjunction with a bakery, has been proposed for the neighborhood but has not yet been approved.

Zen Leaf is owned by Verano Holdings, a cannabis company that has operations in several states. The parent company of Zen Leaf, which will operate the Enfield dispensary, is Verano. The Outback Steakhouse has been closed for a few years, and the building has been vacant.

The proposed dispensary would be approximately 5,000 square feet, and it would have a parking lot with 34 spaces. The dispensary would be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, and it would have security measures in place to ensure the safety of customers and staff.

Zen Leaf has been working with the Rogers Park Business Alliance to address concerns about the proposed dispensary. The business alliance has stated that it supports the proposed dispensary and that it believes it will bring economic benefits to the neighborhood.

The proposed dispensary has also received support from some members of the community. Some residents have stated that they believe the dispensary will bring jobs and tax revenue to the area.

However, there are also concerns about the proposed dispensary. Some residents have expressed concerns about traffic, parking, and safety. Some residents have also expressed concerns about the impact of the dispensary on property values.

The Rogers Park Business Alliance has stated that it will work with Zen Leaf to address these concerns. The business alliance has also stated that it will work with the community to ensure that the dispensary is a good neighbor.

In addition to the proposed dispensary in Rogers Park, Zen Leaf has locations in several other states. NJ Leaf medical cannabis dispensary officially opened Wednesday in Ayr (formerly Garden State) in Eatontown and Zen Leaf in Neptune.

Zen Leaf has also been recognized for its sales. Zen Leaf (El Dorado, opened October 22, 2020) sold 55.36 pounds of medical marijuana in January. Spring River dispensary (Hardy, Arkansas) sold 17.39 pounds in January, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.
