Maryland Prepares for Adult-Use Cannabis Market

Last week the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MSA) released its draft emergency regulations for the state's adult-use marijuana market. The regulations include guidelines for licensing, packaging and labeling, advertising, and testing of cannabis products. The MSA is accepting public comments on the regulations until June 14.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore on Wednesday signed legislation to regulate adult-use cannabis commerce, setting the stage for licensed sales of recreational marijuana to begin on July 1. The bill, which was passed by the state legislature in April, allows adults 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of cannabis and grow up to four plants at home.

Maryland's relaxed marijuana laws take effect on July 1, clearing the way for adults 21 and older to buy and use the drug recreational, as long as they do so in private and not in public places. The state already has a medical cannabis program, which has been in place since 2014.
