In a world where the legalization of cannabis is steadily reshaping medical and recreational usage, nuEra emerges as a trailblazer in the Illinois cannabis industry. The award-winning, family-owned and operated retailer has recently made a significant move by acquiring Ieso, solidifying its position as a vertically integrated powerhouse in the state.

Once it opens in early 2024, NuEra Cannabis will make for the second marijuana dispensary doing business in DeKalb. The dispensary held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction, signaling its commitment to serving the local community and providing high-quality cannabis products.

Area fire departments responded to a report of smoke at a greenhouse facility in Hillcrest on Friday evening, Rochelle Fire Department Lt. The incident was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the smoke was determined to be a minor electrical malfunction, highlighting the importance of safety protocols in the cannabis industry.

On August 18, the cannabis retailer nuEra hosted a “Small Batch, Big Love” event outside its North Ave. dispensary. Several tents were set up for vendors to showcase their products, and attendees enjoyed live music and food trucks. The event was a success, drawing in a large crowd of cannabis enthusiasts and showcasing nuEra's commitment to community engagement.

Unsurprisingly, cannabis-related arrests have plunged in Urbana in the past three years since the legalization of cannabis, but the decline has not been without challenges. Law enforcement officials have had to adapt to new regulations and policies surrounding cannabis use, emphasizing the need for ongoing education and training in the industry.

Michelle and Rick Ringold have built a successful partnership — both in marriage and in cannabis. Rick, a U.S. Army veteran, brings his military discipline and leadership skills to the business, while Michelle's background in marketing and sales has been instrumental in growing their cannabis operation. Together, they exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit that drives the cannabis industry forward.

“There is an analog between retail politics and retail cannabis,” explains Ameya Pawar, former Chicago alderman and candidate for Illinois. Pawar highlights the importance of community engagement and outreach in the cannabis industry, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in business operations.

NuEra Cannabis is among the latest recipients of the city of DeKalb's Architectural Improvement Program grants. The former Book World site is seen undergoing renovations, with plans to transform it into a state-of-the-art cannabis dispensary. The revitalization project is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the local community.
