The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on March 27 to discuss the future of retail cannabis sales in the city. This meeting comes at a pivotal time for Shelton, as the debate over the legalization and regulation of cannabis continues to intensify. While some residents are in favor of allowing cannabis sales in the city, others are concerned about the potential impact on public health and safety.

Officials at Budr Cannabis, a Connecticut-based company, have announced plans to open a hybrid dispensary in Stratford's Oronoque Plaza by the end of the year. This move signals the growing interest in the cannabis industry in the region, despite ongoing legal challenges and regulatory hurdles.

In a recent crackdown on illegal cannabis sales, about 1,900 THC products worth $76,000 were seized from smoke shops in Shelton that did not have a license to sell marijuana. The Shelton Detective Bureau, in collaboration with state agencies such as the Department of Consumer Protection and the Department of Revenue Services, led the operation to enforce regulation and combat illegal drug trafficking.

The hybrid dispensary, located near the Shelton border, is set to offer both recreational and medical marijuana products. This development reflects the increasing demand for cannabis in the area and the potential economic benefits that legal sales could bring to the city.

Despite efforts to prohibit recreational cannabis sales in Shelton, residents may soon see these establishments opening their doors. The failed attempt to ban cannabis sales highlights the shifting attitudes towards marijuana legalization and the challenges faced by local authorities in regulating the industry.

In another enforcement action, police discovered $76,000 worth of cannabis products being sold illegally at smoke shops in Shelton. This seizure underscores the need for stricter regulation and oversight to prevent the illicit sale of marijuana in the city.

On February 5, 2024, the Shelton Detective Bureau, in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Protection and other state agencies, conducted inspections of smoke shops in the area. During these inspections, nearly 2,000 cannabis products were seized, further demonstrating the extent of illegal drug activity in Shelton.
