Minnesota is now among the states where marijuana is legal for adults 21 and older — in a few months, at least. Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota signed a bill into law on Tuesday legal recreational marijuana use in the state. The governor signing the bill makes Minnesota the 23rd state in the U.S. to end cannabis prohibition. Surrounded by dozens of cheering people in green clothes, Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill on Tuesday to legal marijuana. The legal bill allows for everything from adult use to regulating the legal cannabis market, and it will also expunge prior nonviolent marijuana convictions for those with low-level offenses.

The new law will allow adults 21 and older to legal possess and use up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana in public or have up to 10 pounds at home. It also allows for the cultivation of up to eight plants in a private residence, with a maximum of four mature plants. The state will regulate and license marijuana producers, distributors, and retailers, and a 10% excise tax will be imposed on marijuana sales on top of the state's standard sales tax. The funds raised from the tax revenue will be used to support substance abuse prevention and treatment programs in the state.

The bill also includes provisions to expunge past low-level marijuana convictions, which could benefit up to 10,000 Minnesota. Those with prior convictions related to the possess or sale of up to one and a half ounces of marijuana will have their records automatically sealed, while those with larger convictions can petition a court to have their records sealed.

Opponents of the legal argue that it will lead to increased drug abuse and crime in the state. However, supporters believe that it will create new jobs and generate significant tax revenue for the state. The legal of marijuana is expected to create thousands of new jobs in Minnesota, from growers to retailers and everything in between.

Minnesota's move to legal recreational marijuana comes as more states are following suit, with New York, New Mexico, and Virginia also recently legal adult-use cannabis. With the growing acceptance of marijuana, it's likely that more states will follow in the coming years.

In conclusion, Minnesota's move to legal recreational marijuana use for adults is a significant step forward for the state and its residents. It will create new job opportunities, generate tax revenue, and provide a safer and more regulated market for marijuana consumers. Despite opposition from some, the benefit of legal are clear, and it's likely that more states will follow suit in the years to come.
