Supporters of the bill argue that medical marijuana can provide relief to patients suffering from chronic pain, epilepsy, and other debilitating conditions.

Opponents of the bill express concerns about the potential for abuse and the lack of sufficient scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of medical marijuana.

South Carolina currently allows the use of CBD oil, a non-psychoactive compound derived from marijuana, for certain medical conditions.

The bill under debate would expand the use of medical marijuana beyond CBD oil, allowing patients access to a wider range of cannabis-based treatments.

The outcome of the Senate debate remains uncertain, but advocates for medical marijuana are hopeful that South Carolina will join the growing number of states that have legalize its use.
