The recreational use of marijuana will be legal in two dozen states next year, marking a significant shift in attitudes towards the drug. While marijuana may remain illegal federally, the majority of states have made it accessible for adult medical or recreational use. On November 7, voters in Ohio made the decision to legal recreational marijuana, joining a growing number of states embracing cannabis reform.

Cannabis legal has numerous benefits, such as removing the product from the illegal market so it can be taxed and regulated. However, the scientific community is still studying the effects of marijuana on individuals, particularly in terms of long-term use and mental health implications.

In Texas, voters in several cities have pushed to decriminalize marijuana, but city councils have been hesitant to fully embrace the change. Despite this, progress is being made as more states move towards legal. recreational marijuana will soon be legal in Ohio as voters passed Issue 2, allowing adults 21 and over to purchase and possess limited amounts of cannabis.

Currently, 24 states and Washington, DC have legal recreational marijuana, while cannabis is legal for medical purposes in 38 states and DC. Issue 2 on the Nov. 7 ballot in Ohio would permit adults to buy and possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and 15 grams of cannabis concentrate.

In 2012, Colorado and Washington became the first states to legal recreational marijuana through ballot initiatives. Since then, other states have followed suit, with many more expected to legal in the coming years. The trend towards marijuana legal shows no signs of slowing down as public opinion shifts in favor of reform.
