Growing cannabis at home can be a rewarding and cost-effective way to enjoy your favorite herb. Whether you are a seasoned grower or a beginner, there are several key factors to consider when cultivating cannabis plants. The basics of growing weed include choosing the right strain, providing proper light, temperature, and humidity, and following the plant's life cycle from seed to harvest.
As more states legalize cannabis for recreational use, many individuals are taking advantage of the opportunity to grow their own plants. In states like New York, adults 21 and older can buy and possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and grow up to six plants per individual or 12 plants per residence. Home gardeners 21 and older can start planting cannabis indoors in August, as long as their harvest does not exceed 2 pounds in dry weight per year.
After legalization, activists formed a nonprofit to inform community members about the rollout of the new cannabis law. Currently, residents 21 and older can individually have six cannabis plants, and residences with two or more adults can have up to 12. The new law, which goes into effect on Dec. 7, will allow adults over 21 to buy and use marijuana products without a medical card.
