Canada remains one of the only countries in the world that allows legal and regulated access to recreational marijuana. But five years after the legal of cannabis in October 2018, the country is taking a closer look at how the industry has evolved and its impact on society. The government is conducting a review of the cannabis laws, with a scheduled release in the spring. This review will analyze the economic and environmental impacts of the legislation, as well as progress toward providing access to legal cannabis for all Canadians.

The willingness to buy legal cannabis is further confirmed by another recent report from Statistics Canada, published early in March. It shows a growing acceptance of legal cannabis among Canadians, with a majority of respondents supporting its legal. This trend is reflected in the Canadian cannabis market data, which tracks all legal cannabis sales, including medical and non-medical use, inventory, and cultivation area data.

A new survey published in the Journal of Cannabis Research found strong majority support for legal cannabis among respondents from both the medical and recreational sectors. This indicates a shift in public perception towards cannabis, with more Canadians embracing its benefits and advocating for its legal status.

Editor's note: This story was updated at 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, Oct 12, to include comments from Organigram CEO Beena Goldenberg. Goldenberg emphasized the importance of responsible consumption and the need for continued education around legal cannabis use.

When the use of cannabis became legal in Canada, there was hope that it would help ease access for medical users of marijuana. The legal of recreational cannabis in October 2018 marked a significant milestone in Canada's history, opening up new opportunities for both consumers and businesses in the cannabis industry.

Before Canada legal recreational cannabis in October 2018, there was considerable debate about its potential effects. Critics raised concerns about the impact of legal on public health, safety, and youth consumption. However, proponents argued that legal cannabis would lead to better regulation, taxation, and harm reduction strategies.

According to data from the National Conference of State Legislatures, 24 states and Washington, DC have legal recreational marijuana. Cannabis is legal for medical purposes in 38 states and DC, indicating a growing acceptance of cannabis use across the United States. This trend mirrors the changing attitudes towards cannabis in Canada and other countries around the world.
